Taiwan has issued its first response after Donald Trump avoided answering questions on Taiwan during his high-stakes summit with Xi Jinping in Beijing. Taipei insisted there was “no surprising information” from the meeting, but concerns are growing over Washington’s long-term commitment to the island. The reaction came after Xi warned Trump that mishandling Taiwan could push China and the United States toward direct conflict. Beijing also demanded extreme caution on Taiwan-related issues while Trump’s White House readout made no mention of the island, fuelling fresh speculation about shifting U.S.-China dynamics.
