We are looking for a full-stack engineer to help us revolutionise the field of automated paleography (= transcription of historical documents using AI).

Our team has developed the state-of-the-art handwriting recognition AI tool for historical documents, and now we need to be able to wrap it with a robust web application for our users, who are historians at universities, libraries and archives.

The web app code should be elegant and extensible, written using commonly-used modern frameworks. The required functionality includes:
– User authentication flows
– Subscription and credits management
– Automated transcription using an API provided by our machine learning team
– Parallel image / transcript viewer for pages
– Ability to edit transcripts and revert to previous versions
– Management of transcribed pages, documents and collections of documents
– Ability to search through document/collection names and transcripts

Potential functionality (to be discussed):
– Organisation of users into team
– Document/collection sharing among teams
– Collaborative (realtime?) transcript editing
– Cross-platform application (e.g. React Native for Web/iOS/Android)

Key design elements/branding will be provided by our team, but this site does not need to be pixel-perfect, it just needs to work robustly.

This is a medium-to-large project with an estimated duration of 1 to 3 months. We are seeking an intermediate-level developer who can independently handle development tasks, with high-level guidance from our CTO.

Hourly Range: $18.00-$36.00
