Short Brief:
We require an automatic data scaper server that will download Excel spreadsheets(.xlsx) and check their contents for matching keywords. It will then display how many instances of each keywords it has managed to find per file.

In-Depth Brief:
When we purchase stock for our company, we use a website made by our supplier. On this website platform, our supplier uploads daily ‘deals’ for pallets of stock. Each deal page contains a downloadable spreadsheet that has the full stock breakdown. These deals then receive bids from interested buyers(like us). Currently, we’re having to manually refresh the deal website every hour or so, check for new deals, download the spreadsheets, and check if there is any stock that interests us. (Not all stock interests us, so we must check each deal one by one until we find something we like). This is very manual and laboursome, we need this automatized.

We require the script/bot to check the deal website on a schedule. Our supplier only uploads new deals Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5pm, so we just need the script to check during those hours.

The script will go on the deal platform, check for any new deals (ensuring it does not re-check deals it has already checked. Each deal has a unique ID), and when it finds a newly uploaded deal, it will download the spreadsheet for it, then it will check for keywords of each row. Then, it will display the results of each check in a nice and easy-to-understand graphical interface.

We have a clear vision of what we want the web UI to look like and can provide wireframe sketches of how we want the web UI to look like.

What makes us an ideal easy-going client?
The fact that we’re in the tech world ourselves (we’re a computer repair shop) means that we are not a difficult ‘technophobe’ client (which I’m sure you’ve had to deal with before!). We even have good surface-level experience in HTML, PHP, an understanding of client-side vs server-side limitations, etc. There won’t be a need for countless discovery calls, countless explanations of simple IT terms, silly questions from us, etc. We plan on being a straight forward realistic client.

There is also an opportunity for similar work in the future, as we plan to create a similar system like this one straight after this job is complete.

Hourly Range: $20.00-$30.00
