Overview:
We are seeking a skilled developer with experience in integrating weather data and Mapbox APIs to enhance our outdoor sports experiences website, specifically targeting snow sports enthusiasts.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing a series of interactive widgets that provide real-time and forecasted weather data, avalanche risk information, and other relevant environmental conditions to help users plan their snow sports activities safely and effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and implement interactive widgets OR integrate weather data that can display a combination of weather forecast information, including but not limited to snow depth, snow and wind forecasts, temperature, avalanche risks, weather warnings, and visibility conditions.

Work with weather APIs to fetch real-time data and integrate this information into comprehensive or focused widgets or integrate into our existing UI – on a Mapbox-powered map interface.
We expect to use Mapbox Weather and Windy.com.

Ensure that the widgets provide a user-friendly experience.

Collaborate with the UI/UX team to design widgets that are both informative and aesthetically pleasing, enhancing the overall user experience of the app.

Optimize data presentation to ensure that information is accessible and understandable, with options for users to dive deeper into detailed forecasts and safety recommendations.
Implement a notification system within the app to alert users of severe weather conditions or high avalanche risks based on their location or selected areas. We will start simple and focus on basic information and then improve the experience over time.

Ensure the reliability and performance of the weather data integration, including handling data updates and managing any API limitations or changes.

Requirements:
1) Proven experience with weather data APIs and Mapbox integration.
2) Strong proficiency in frontend development technologies, with experience in building interactive UI elements and integrating with backend APIs.
3) Knowledge of geospatial data visualization and experience in creating map-based applications.
4) Familiarity with the unique requirements of snow sports enthusiasts and the ability to translate these into practical, user-friendly features.
5) Excellent collaboration skills to work closely with the UI/UX team and other developers.
6) Problem-solving mindset with a focus on delivering reliable and effective solutions.
7) A portfolio showcasing previous projects with similar technologies and features is highly desirable.

Hourly Range: $10.00-$120.00
