Donald Trump is bragging about “great progress” and “serious discussions” with a “new, more reasonable” regime in Iran – but his own team is openly talking war over the Strait of Hormuz. As 3,500 U.S. Marines arrive on USS Tripoli and Washington teases armed “escort” convoys to forcibly reopen the chokepoint, Trump has now threatened to “obliterate” Iran’s entire power grid, oil fields, desalination plants and even Kharg Island if Hormuz is not “immediately open for business.” This as Tehran insists there are no direct talks and calls U.S. demands “excessive, unrealistic and illogical.”
