Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate María Corina Machado made her first public appearance in 11 months after arriving in Oslo, where she met Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. Machado, who had been in hiding since January following her brief detention during a Caracas protest, said she doubts the Maduro government knew her whereabouts. Her daughter accepted the Nobel Peace Prize on her behalf, promising she will return to Venezuela soon. Norway reaffirmed its support for Venezuela’s democratic future and the rebuilding of key institutions as Machado continues her peaceful challenge to President Nicolás Maduro’s government.
