Nicolás Maduro Guerra, lawmaker from Venezuela’s ruling United Socialist Party (PSUV) and son of former President Nicolás Maduro, said that all actions taken by the current government are part of a five-point negotiation plan left behind by his father before his capture by U.S. forces on January 3. Speaking at a March of Social Movements in Caracas, Maduro Guerra stressed that Acting President Delcy Rodríguez and the senior political leadership are following Maduro’s direct instructions. He called for national unity, backing of state institutions and the armed forces, and said investigations are underway into the events surrounding Maduro’s detention, which followed the U.S.-led ‘Absolute Resolution Operation’ that reportedly left over 100 people dead.
