Vladimir Putin’s team has moved from vague signals about ending the Ukraine war to a blunt ultimatum. Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov has openly said that negotiations with Kyiv will remain stalled, even after “dozens of rounds of talks,” unless Ukraine takes this “serious step” and withdraws from the contested region. According to Ushakov, Ukraine’s government already knows this is Moscow’s red line, and any fresh meetings with mediators won’t change the deadlock until Kyiv moves its troops.
