We are seeking an experienced PostgreSQL/PostGIS expert to help assist us with a specific task. We have a mapping application that plots features (Points) on a map.  These features are returned by our back end service in GeoJSON format and are retrieved each time a user zooms or pans the map. The number of features returned are restricted by a bounding box however at high zoom levels (12 – 14) we are still getting approximately 25000 to 42551 features returned which leads to a densely populated map and poor performance (see attached images).

Your task is to suggest ways that we can further limit the number of points that are returned by our service via features offered by PostGIS, but still be able to roughly convey the density of features at a location.

Other Details
* You will be given the schema and dataset we use for these points along with our current queries.
* These points do not change often
* We are running PostgreSQL 16.3, with POSTGIS "3.3.5.
* Our map SDK is OpenLayers.
* We are aiming for low response times

Further work will be coming upon successful completion of this task.
