New Delhi, January 19
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the Khelo India Youth Games in Chennai today, asserting that such events are helping youth from poor, Adivasi and lower middle-class families achieve their dreams.
“When we say vocal for local, it includes sporting talent as well. At the local level, we are giving practice and holding tournaments,” said PM Modi.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Modi said sports is an integral part of the New Education Policy. “We are giving a platform to professionals related to sports science, innovation, manufacturing, sports coaching, sports psychology, and sports nutrition,” he said.
The PM said the government is making efforts to host the 2036 Olympic Games, as also the 2029 Youth Olympics, adding that his desire is to make India a top sporting nation.
