During Question Hour in the Lok Sabha, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi raised concerns over recurring landslides on the Chandigarh–Shimla highway, pointing out that low retaining walls were failing to prevent slope collapse. She also sought an appointment with Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari to discuss highway issues in her Wayanad constituency. Responding, Gadkari said his doors were always open and no appointment was needed. He acknowledged that landslides are a widespread challenge across the Himalayan terrain, confirmed the contractor had been removed, and revealed that India has signed an MoU with Switzerland. The government has identified 84 landslide-prone locations and is deploying advanced slope-protection technology.
