Colombian President Gustavo Petro has urged U.S. President Donald Trump to distance himself from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, warning that the Israeli leader is “leading humanity to an abyss.” Speaking at the funeral of civil rights icon Jesse Jackson in Chicago, Petro criticised Israel’s role in the escalating Middle East conflict and called for a global “pact for life and peace.” He accused Netanyahu of launching missiles that harm civilians and compared the current global climate to Europe in 1933, when fascism rose to power. Petro’s remarks come as tensions grow worldwide over the widening Iran–Israel confrontation.
