India has raised serious concerns at the United Nations Security Council over rising threats to commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, calling any attacks on civilian vessels “deplorable.” Speaking at the UN, Yojna Patel stressed that the Strait remains critical for India’s energy and economic security, warning that targeting merchant ships and endangering seafarers is unacceptable and violates international law. India also highlighted the broader impact of the ongoing Middle East crisis on global trade, energy supplies, and food security, urging all sides to exercise restraint and prioritise dialogue and diplomacy.
