Robbers carried out a spectacular heist in western Germany, drilling into a Sparkasse bank vault in Gelsenkirchen during the extended Christmas break and stealing cash, gold and jewellery worth an estimated 30 million euros. Police said the gang accessed the underground vault from a parking garage, breaking into more than 3,000 safe deposit boxes. Investigators believe the criminals may have spent several days inside the bank while businesses were closed for the holidays. The robbery was discovered after a fire alarm was triggered, with security footage showing masked suspects fleeing in a stolen Audi. The perpetrators remain at large.
