U.S. military and arms control experts have raised concerns over China’s growing nuclear arsenal. This comes as China prepares to showcase its latest weapons during the ‘Victory Day’ parade on September 3. According to U.S. research, China is expanding its nuclear stockpile at a faster rate than any other country. The U.S. believes that China is boosting nuclear weapons production with President Xi Jinping’s plan concerning Taiwan in mind. The chief of U.S. Strategic Command has stated that China is gearing up to be ready to seize Taiwan by 2027. However, China maintains that it follows a “nuclear strategy of self-defense” and upholds a no-first-use policy. This policy also asserts that China will not use nuclear weapons against a non-nuclear armed state. Despite China’s public stance, the Pentagon remains skeptical about China’s true approach to its nuclear weapons program.
