Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that the body of Ran Gavili, described as the last Israeli hostage in Gaza, has been recovered. Speaking in Jerusalem, Netanyahu declared that “there are no more hostages in Gaza” and said the next phase of Israel’s strategy would focus on the disarmament of Hamas and the demilitarisation of the Gaza Strip, rather than reconstruction. The Israeli military said Gavili’s remains were identified through forensic and police coordination after being discovered in a cemetery near Gaza City. According to the army, examinations were conducted on around 250 bodies. Hamas, meanwhile, stated that it had shared information with mediators and guarantor states regarding the location of the remains and called for the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement, including reopening the Rafah crossing.
