Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the ₹3,030-crore Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu in Guwahati, a six-lane extradosed bridge linking North Guwahati in just 7-10 minutes, down from nearly an hour. Spanning 2.86 km across the Brahmaputra, it features an emergency landing facility, high-performance stay cables and a real-time bridge health monitoring system. The all-weather corridor reduces dependence on the Saraighat bridge and ferries, boosting connectivity, logistics and regional mobility. Named after the 7th-century Kamrupa king Kumar Bhaskar Varma, the project marks the Northeast’s first extradosed PSC bridge and is expected to strengthen economic activity and strategic infrastructure.
