Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner María Corina Machado revealed she does not believe the Maduro government knew her whereabouts during her 11 months in hiding — adding they “would’ve done everything to stop” her from reaching Oslo. Machado resurfaced in Norway after travelling secretly via Curaçao, following years of repression and accusations of foreign intervention. While Western Europe welcomed her Nobel recognition, the Global South reacted sharply due to her past comments on U.S. involvement in Venezuela. Maduro has repeatedly dismissed Machado as “toxic,” accusing her of conspiring to destabilise the country.
