Venezuela’s acting President Delcy Rodríguez said her telephone talks with U.S. President Donald Trump and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio were grounded in mutual respect and a willingness to pursue a constructive agenda, even amid ongoing political differences. Rodríguez, speaking from Miraflores Palace in Caracas, stressed the need to uphold international law and work towards diplomatic dialogue between the two nations. Her comments come as Venezuela navigates a complex transition following the U.S. military capture of Nicolás Maduro earlier this year and her assumption of interim leadership. Rodríguez has also announced a general amnesty law aimed at freeing hundreds of political prisoners and plans to transform the notorious El Helicoide prison into a social centre. The U.S. White House signalled its support for the release of political prisoners but said no official visit between Trump and Rodríguez has been scheduled yet.
