India’s strategic petroleum reserves are currently only about 64 percent full, with 3.372 million tonnes stored against a total capacity of 5.33 million tonnes, according to a government reply in Parliament. These underground reserves at Visakhapatnam, Mangaluru, and Padur can provide only about 9.5 days of crude demand cover if fully stocked, which has sharpened concerns during the ongoing West Asia energy crisis.
