We operate a WooCommerce website that hosts a substantial number of products with numerous variations and attributes. Many of our products have several hundred to several thousand variations, which has resulted in a significant strain on our database.

Current Situation:

• Our wp_postmeta table has grown to over 73,000,000 rows, leading to severe performance issues.

• Products with hundreds or thousands of variations are particularly problematic, often timing out and failing to load.

• These issues are impacting both the front-end user experience and the back-end administrative tasks.

What We’re Looking For:

We need an experienced WooCommerce and database optimization expert to diagnose and resolve these performance issues. The ideal candidate will have:

• Extensive Experience with WooCommerce:

• Deep understanding of WooCommerce’s database architecture, especially regarding products, variations, and attributes.

• Proven experience in optimizing large MySQL/MariaDB
databases, including indexing, query optimization, and potentially restructuring tables to handle large datasets more efficiently.

• Ability to develop or modify custom solutions that can reduce database load, improve query performance, and enhance overall site speed.

• Experience in server and PHP performance tuning, object caching (e.g., Redis or Memcached), and other techniques to improve the responsiveness of WooCommerce stores.

• Strong analytical skills to identify bottlenecks, troubleshoot issues, and implement effective solutions.

Project Goals:

• Optimize the WooCommerce database to handle large numbers of product variations without timeouts or slowdowns.

• Improve both front-end and back-end performance, ensuring a smoother experience for customers and site administrators.

• Implement long-term solutions that can scale with the continued growth of our product catalog.
