Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on Tuesday warned that the recent operation in Caracas sets a “very dangerous precedent,” saying illegitimacy cannot be answered with illegality. While reiterating that Spain has never recognised Nicolas Maduro’s government due to flawed elections, Sanchez stressed that the international order must be governed by rules, not force. He cautioned that such actions risk global instability and insecurity. Sanchez said Spain will keep dialogue open with both Venezuelan opposition figures and current authorities, offering to help mediate a democratic transition with free and fair elections. He also said 2026 could be decisive for ending the war in Ukraine.
