Syria’s Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shibani has called for a relationship based on “mutual respect” in any future agreement with Israel, warning that the continued presence of Israeli troops in Syria remains a red line for Damascus. Speaking at the Doha Forum 2025, Al-Shibani said Israeli policies toward Syria since the change in power in Damascus have contributed to ongoing instability. He stressed that a just and lasting accord must be bilateral and balanced, taking into account the interests of both sides, and urged Israel to stop interfering in Syria’s internal affairs. Al-Shibani also cautioned that Israel’s alleged engagement with certain groups inside Syria would ultimately backfire. His remarks come as Israel has expanded its military footprint in southern Syria, citing security concerns.
