I need some Python scripts that takes in a .ply pointcloud and finds different curved surface patches to the pointcloud. The intended use case for this is to detect different bumps on pointclouds of rocks for further scientific analysis.

There is an existing Matlab toolbox that does this for 10 different types of surface patches: https://www2.ccs.neu.edu/research/gpc/spl/

I do not need all 10 different types of surface patches. I only want to fit the circular, cylindrical, and elliptical parabolic patches.
