Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico clashed with the opposition in a tense parliamentary session after Igor Matovič briefly disrupted his speech by standing directly behind him in the National Council. Fico reiterated Slovakia’s firm opposition to EU plans for additional military funding for Ukraine, insisting there is “no military solution” and calling the continued fighting “senseless killing.” In a letter to European Council President Miri Antonio, Fico vowed he would not back any proposal obliging Slovakia to finance Ukraine’s military effort. The dispute comes ahead of a crucial European Council summit on using frozen Russian assets for a Ukraine “reparations loan.”
