A political storm has erupted in Assam after Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi called Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma “Assam’s Jinnah” amid escalating tensions ahead of the state assembly elections. Gogoi downplayed the exit of former Assam Congress chief Bhupen Borah, who resigned from the party and joined the BJP on February 22. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, Gogoi alleged a close relationship between Borah and Sarma and claimed the move was a distraction from questions surrounding alleged land holdings linked to the chief minister’s family. He further accused Sarma of changing his stance on Borah, pointing to previous criticism by the CM and an inquiry reportedly involving the Women’s Commission. Gogoi asserted that Borah’s departure would not dent the Congress campaign and vowed to continue challenging the BJP government.
