EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas appeared to escalate tensions with the United States on Thursday, claiming that Washington “hasn’t supported Ukraine for almost a year” as she arrived for the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels. Kallas warned that the international rules-based order is under strain and that transatlantic ties are not what they once were. She insisted that for any meaningful diplomatic progress, Europe must take a leading role in backing Ukraine’s defence.
