I’ve got a website I’ve been working on since 1999, which is https://www.goproblems.com/ and I’m looking for help making it much more awesome. The website has a few thousand daily active users currently, and I’m planning to grow this a lot in the future.

The team has three other engineers right now, but mostly part time. I’m looking to add one engineer to speed up development. You should have the available time to average a minimum of 30 hours a week.

Typical tasks are things like:
1) Take an existing feature and improve it according to a written high level specification
2) Fix bugs and tech debt
3) Build a new feature according to a spec
4) Improve performance

The architecture is roughly:
PHP 8
Symfony
Docker
ECS and other AWS services
Github
Mysql
Some frontend Javascript frameworks
You should be comfortable working in this type of stack. Competence in Javascript and basic UI functionality is important to help ship a full stack solution, but I’m not expecting you to do polished frontend design.

Our team works to follow best practices, such as following code style guidelines, code reviews on every pull request, unit testing, etc.

An example spec from the project for a feature called “Level Progress” is attached. You would be expected to be able to take something like this and implement it without a lot of hand holding (but knowing when to ask appropriate questions is important too).

You should be experienced and comfortable in the above domains and capable of independently making good decisions and producing good results without a lot of detailed supervision. Our small team will have a Discord channel and occasional video chats. Our weekly sync meeting is 10am PST on Mondays and you would be expected to join.

Hourly Range: $20.00-$30.00
