A massive fire engulfed a popular nightclub in Arpora, Goa, on December 7. The blaze at Birch by Romeo Lane reportedly claimed at least 23 lives, with early accounts suggesting the fire may have been triggered by an LPG cylinder explosion. Most victims were staff members, while some tourists were also among the dead. Many were trapped in the club’s basement with little time to escape. Reports indicate that three people succumbed to injuries, while others died due to smoke inhalation. The fire spread rapidly through the club, which was reportedly made of combustible material. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences over what he called a “deeply saddening mishap.”
