I am the owner of a vaping website (www.vapinghardware.com) that has seen substantial growth over the years but has recently experienced a significant decline in traffic.

I believe that a thorough website redesign is necessary to address the issues we’ve encountered.

We know that WP Bakery page builder, potentially the X Theme and the plugins we’ve used may have led to heavy, convoluted, unnecessary code.

Ideally we’d like to start with a clean slate, using a new theme, page builder and plugins.

Background: Our website was initially built using WordPress and the X theme seven years ago. Over time, our traffic steadily increased, reaching a peak of 65,000 monthly pageviews in August 2023.

However, in subsequent months, our traffic has decreased by over 50%. Our investigation indicates potential issues related to recent Google updates, particularly in Core Web Vitals.

Identified Issues: Upon examining our website’s stats through Google Search Console, Page Speed Insights, and GTMetrix, we discovered several critical problems. The most prominent issues include CLS and LCP issues, alongside concerns about the upcoming INP rollout.

Despite engaging a freelancer to address these issues, the solutions implemented were only minimally successful. Unfortunately, due to poor communication, we lack clarity on the changes made, although we did notice some improvement in mobile ‘Good URLs’ but none on desktop.

We’ve also just recently noticed a number of indexing issues within Google Search Console.  Again we’re not sure if these are related to the traffic problems we’ve experienced but we’re hoping a complete redesign and overhaul of the website will resolve these issues.

Request: We recognize that our expertise does not lie in web development. We built the site ourselves and this may have resulted in inadvertent mistakes. Consequently, we seek a comprehensive overhaul and redesign of the website to achieve a more modern and professional look.

Our preference is to utilize the ‘Divi / Extra’ theme, minimize the reliance on Plugins and ensure a seamless and efficient background code for optimal site performance.

Objectives of the Redesign: We’d like to rectify the identified issues we think are causing the decline in traffic and to enhance the overall website performance. We aim to achieve significant improvements in page loading times, on-page SEO, user interface, and overall user experience.

Attached Brief: For a more detailed understanding of our requirements and envisioned outcomes, we have included a comprehensive brief outlining our specific expectations for the website redesign. This includes information about the pages we would need designed, the desired layout of certain pages and post templates, extra functionality such as an integrated email subscriber list and several other improvements we’d like to see.

We’re happy to defer to your expertise with the redesign. There are elements of our current design that we like, however, we’re not particularly attached to the design we already have. We also like elements from several of our competitors websites in the vaping industry. We will link to certain sites throughout the brief where applicable.
