Our Client has been utilizing SAP SQL Anywhere database technology for over two decades, supporting their robust network of on-premise installations across approximately 700 farm dealerships. With the impending conclusion of support for SAP SQL Anywhere, they are at a critical juncture to transition to a new database system that ensures the client’s operational continuity and future scalability.

Key Challenges:
Client existing infrastructure is deeply integrated with the SAP SQL Anywhere database, presenting unique challenges:

– Direct database calls from the UI layer using plain SQL commands, lacking an Object-Relational Mapping (ORM) layer.
– Extensive use of SAP SQL Anywhere-specific SQL commands and methods, making the client’s codebase tightly coupled with this specific database technology.

Your Assigned Objective:
– Analyze and convert all SAP SQL Anywhere-specific commands to standard SQL commands, ensuring compatibility with more widely supported database systems.
– Evaluate and recommend a robust, future-proof database solution (e.g., MS SQL Server) as a replacement for SAP SQL Anywhere, considering our specific needs and the landscape of on-premise installations.
– Develop a proof of concept for the proposed database solution, demonstrating its feasibility and benefits for our operations.
– Lead the migration process from SAP SQL Anywhere to the new database system, ensuring a seamless transition with minimal impact on our day-to-day operations.

This role requires a candidate with a strong background in SQL and experience with database migration projects. Proficiency in programming languages such as C# and C++ is highly desirable, along with a deep understanding of database architectures and the ability to adapt and translate existing database commands to new environments.
