Bhubaneswar, February 9

The Indian women’s hockey team produced a flawless effort to outwit United States 3-1 and end the Bhubaneswar leg of the Pro League on a winning note here today.

Vandana Katariya (9th minute), Deepika (26th), and Samila Tete (56th) scored for the home side, while Sanne Caarls (42nd) netted the consolation goal for USA.

This was India’s first win of the season after suffering losses to China, Netherlands and Australia. The five teams will now move to Rourkela for the second part of the India leg.

In the first match of the day, Olympics and world champions Netherlands hammered Australia 6-2 to maintain their all-win record and take their tally to 24 points at the top of the table.
