Iran is reportedly considering a plan to impose permits, tolls, and Iranian legal control over undersea internet cables passing through the Strait of Hormuz, opening up a new front in its effort to leverage the chokepoint. Reporting citing Fars News Agency says the proposal would require submarine cable operators to obtain Iranian approval, pay fees, and potentially hand management, repair, and maintenance work exclusively to Iranian companies.
