As the war in West Asia continues to grow, HT’s Sunetra Choudhury explains the impact of the war on India. One of the biggest concerns revolves around energy supplies. A large portion of India’s LPG cooking gas imports pass through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, a narrow maritime route connecting the Persian Gulf to global markets. Any disruption in this chokepoint can quickly impact supply chains. While the government says there is no nationwide shortage, reports from several regions indicate temporary disruptions affecting schools, restaurants, temples, and community kitchens. In some cases, commercial kitchens have been forced to shut down or alter menus due to difficulty obtaining LPG cylinders.
