India has sharpened its demand for long-pending UN Security Council reforms, with Deputy Permanent Representative Yojna Patel calling out stalling tactics in the intergovernmental negotiations and saying global patience has run out. Patel said reforms must include expansion of the permanent category, warning that any outcome that avoids permanent-seat expansion would be incomplete and unjust. She dismissed proposals for a “third category” of membership as a delaying tactic—a “red herring”—and said restructuring must correct existing imbalances to restore the Council’s credibility and legitimacy.
