Two Venezuelan soldiers and a civilian witness have described chaotic scenes during a U.S. military assault on Fort Tiuna in Caracas, part of a large-scale operation that led to the capture of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife. Soldiers said they resisted a U.S. helicopter attempting to land at the base, fearing it would be seized, and spoke of explosions, destruction, and injuries. A nearby resident recalled waking to mountains “full of fire,” helicopters overhead, and mass panic as civilians fled. Authorities later ordered evacuations around the military complex.
