Dozens of people are feared dead and around 100 injured after a powerful explosion tore through a crowded bar during New Year’s Eve celebrations at the upscale ski resort of Crans in southwestern Switzerland. Valais canton police said the blast occurred around 1:30 a.m. at a bar called Le Constellation, after smoke was reported and emergency services were alerted. Firefighters, police units and rescue teams were rapidly deployed from across the region, with victims transported to hospitals in Sion, Lausanne, Geneva and Zurich. Authorities have closed the main street of Crans as investigations continue into the cause of the explosion.
