German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has warned that Europe must “do much more” to end the war in Ukraine after President Zelensky’s White House visit “did not go as hoped.” Speaking in Meschede, Merz said Ukraine’s surrender “would only invite new Russian attacks” and warned that Moldova or the Baltics could be next. He accused Moscow of waging cyber and disinformation warfare across Europe, saying Putin still dreams of reviving Soviet power. Merz’s fiery remarks follow his late-night call with Zelensky after the latter’s tense meeting with Donald Trump in Washington.
