India’s Russian-made S-400 ‘Sudarshan Chakra’ air defence system played a decisive role in foiling Pakistan’s largest aerial assault in years, intercepting and destroying a barrage of missiles and drones launched at northern and western Indian cities on May 7–8, 2025. The S-400’s advanced multi-band radar tracked up to 300 targets from 600 km away, providing 360-degree coverage and enabling layered defence. All 15 Pakistani missiles and multiple drones targeting key military and civilian sites-including Jammu, Srinagar, Pathankot, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Bhuj, and others-were neutralized by India’s integrated air defence grid, preventing any casualties or material losses.
