U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has threatened to take back control of the Panama canal. The 82 km artificial waterway was built by America in 1914 and its complete control was transferred to the Panamanian government in 1999. Trump accused Panama of imposing “exorbitant prices” on US vessels to use the canal, and warned of taking back the waterway if the central American nation doesn’t mend its ways.
