NATO nations and staunch allies of Ukraine, Poland and France urge Western countries to lift restrictions on the use of weapons against Russia. Poland’s deputy defence minister, Cezary Tomczyk, said on May 29 that Ukraine was free to use Polish-supplied arms. He also said that “Western countries should also lift such restrictions.” France’s President Emmanuel Macron said on May 28 that Kyiv should be allowed to “neutralise” Russian military bases used to fire missiles into Ukraine. Meanwhile, US’ National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said, “We don’t encourage or enable the use of US-supplied weapons to strike inside Russia.” Germany too echoed a similar view with the US.
